Additional Activities

There are many exciting places to visit whilst on attachment with African Hoofbeatz or on completion of your internship. We will gladly assist you in arranging any trips you wish to do. The cost for any trips will be based on the service providers’ rates.

VICTORIA FALLS

Something that should be on everyones bucket list is to see Victoria Falls, one of the seven Natural Wonders of the World. It is only 400km from Bulawayo and boasts a wide range of adrenalin and wildlife activities. A 5 day trip can be arranged for you including a stop at Hwange National Park which is on route.

MATOPOS NATIONAL PARK

Matopos Hills National Park is a World Heritage Site and close by. It’s known for the Matobo Hills, a range of balancing rock formations created by erosion of the granite plateau. The walls of Nswatugi Cave feature Stone Age rock art. The grave of Cecil Rhodes, founder of former British colony Rhodesia, is carved into the summit of Malindidzimu.

In addition to the horseback camping safari (included in the programme), it offers the chance to walk with white rhinos, experience cave painting tours, game drives or visit World’s View.

WILDLIFE ORPHANAGES

Within Bulawayo there are two wildlife orphanages which can be visiited. These are Free To Be Wild and Chipangali.

Free To Be Wild Sanctuary is the first wildlife rehabilitation centre oriented specifically to the rehab and release of African primates in Zimbabwe.

Chipangali was established in 1973 and is a home for abandoned, orphaned, and injured animals in Bulawayo, Zimbabwe. They focus on wildlife conservation and education, including rescuing, rehabilitating and releasing animals.

HEALING WITH HORSES

You will also have an opportunity to assist at the Healing with Horses centre in Bulawayo, which focuses on rehabilitation of physically and mentally disabled children through interaction with horses. Their aim is to heal children and communities through Equine Assisted Services. Children and adults living with cerebral palsy, autism, down syndrome, vision impairment, post-traumatic stress disorder, physical and emotional abuse and depression can all benefit from sustained interaction with horses.

The Centre is a non-profit, voluntary organisation with 30 trained ponies and horses. They rely on the kindness of others, including voluntary help, donations and sponsorships to help those in need.

CULTURAL TOURS

Partnering with Black Rhino Safaris, we are also able to offer cultural tours from half days to full days, including transfers from and to our accommodation.

Cultural city tours activities include half day trips to visit to local markets and craft centres, experiencing traditional local cuisine or trips to Zimbabwe’s National Railway museum and Zimbabwe’s Natural History museum.

Khami Ruins tours include half or full day trips exploring ancient Khami Ruins (a UNESCO World Heritage site).
